Here at Veatch Instruments when we service a Direct Ophthalmoscope we don't just clean the eyepieces and send it back out. We disassemble it down to its basic components and clean them individually. When a BIO gets dropped (which happens a lot) we align the optics and replace the necessary parts, clean all the components and reassemble. Then, we use a schematic eye along with a 20D lens to make sure the field of view is crisp and fused.
